Question:
When a patient is admitted from the ED, what do they see differently from the discharge screen? Is there anything beyond what is shown in the attached screenshot?
When a patient is admitted from the ED, are any follow-up text messages sent to the patient?
Follow up questions -
- What triggers in data would show the patient the inpatient admission disposition in ERAdvisor?
- What time buffer (e.g. 30 min) is introduced to ensure that the patient doesn't see they are admitted before a doctor speaks to them? Are there other safeguards in place to ensure this doesn't happen?
Answer:
Initial Question:
I don't believe we do actually send patients an SMS when they're going to be admitted - I can't find any record of it. I think this only exists in demos.
Admitted patients will only receive the patient portal reminder SMS - they will not receive any reminders about scheduling appointments.
If CareAdvisor is live, inpatients will receive an invite SMS:
You can make non-urgent requests for meals, concerns, room cleaning and more through your mobile phone: {link}
1. Admit triggers:
-
via ADT, when we receive a
Transfer
orVisitUpdate
placing the patient in Inpatient status -
via Notes, when we receive a dispo note that contains the terms "assessment and plan", "disposition", and the specific outcome e.g. "admit".
-
via Orders, when we receive an admit order.
2. I know we have a time buffer of 30 minutes to give the doctor a chance to talk to the patient, but I can't actually see where this occurs.
